Moonstone is the opalescent variety of orthoclase. The sheen is caused by the reflection of light from the internal structure. Stones of large size and fine quality are rare. Hardness: 6.5 Origin: Sri Lanka, India, Mayanmar, Tanzania Varieties: White to the more valuable blue. |
