Emerald (Beryl family) derives its color from chromium and vanadium. Rarely flawless, stones often have inclusions (gas bubbes, foreign crystals) which may signal genuineness as opposed to totally clean synthetics. Deep greens are the most valuable. Hardness: 7.5 Origin: Colombia, Australia, South Africa, India Varieties: light to dark green. |
